How to Connect a PS4 Controller?

Connecting a DualShock 4 controller depends on whether you're pairing it to a PS4 console or to another device like a PC or phone.

To a PS4 console (first time / wired):

1. Plug the controller into the PS4 with a micro-USB cable.
2. Press the PS button (the round button in the middle).
3. The controller pairs and assigns itself a player number. You can then unplug it and use it wirelessly.

To a PS4 console (already paired): Just press the PS button — it reconnects automatically as long as the console is on or in rest mode.

Pairing mode (for PC, Mac, phone, or a second console):

1. Make sure the controller is off (light bar dark).
2. Hold the Share button and the PS button together for about 3–5 seconds.
3. The light bar starts flashing white rapidly — that means it's in pairing mode and discoverable.

Then connect from the device:

• Windows PC: open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth, and select "Wireless Controller." (Or just plug it in with USB, which works without pairing.)
• Mac: System Settings → Bluetooth, then connect to "DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller."
• iPhone/iPad: Settings → Bluetooth, tap "DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller."
• Android: Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device.

Troubleshooting:

• Won't pair? Reset the controller: find the tiny reset button in a small hole on the back, near the L2 shoulder, and press it with a paperclip for about 5 seconds. Then try pairing again.
• Not charging or connecting by cable? Try a different micro-USB cable — many cheap cables are charge-only and don't carry data.
• A solid light bar means connected; flashing white means pairing; orange pulsing means charging.
