How to Connect a Nintendo Switch to a TV?

Step by step (original Switch and Switch OLED)

1. Plug the dock power adapter into the wall and into the dock.
2. Run an HDMI cable from the dock's HDMI port to an HDMI port on the TV.
3. Turn the TV on and select that HDMI input.
4. Seat the Switch in the dock (screen facing out, USB-C into the bottom connector). You should hear the dock click and see the TV image after a second or two.
5. If the screen stays on the console, nudge it so the USB-C is fully seated; a loose sit is the usual failure.

Switch OLED vs. original: OLED uses a different dock with a larger kickstand cutout. Use the dock that came with that model (or a dock Nintendo lists as compatible). Don't force an OLED into a too-tight third-party original-style dock.

Switch Lite: cannot use a standard dock for TV play — it has no TV-out. Third-party capture/dock gadgets exist but aren't Nintendo's supported path; Lite is handheld-only by design.

Switch 2 / newer docks: same idea — official dock + HDMI + power — but use that model's dock and adapter. Mixing old docks and new consoles is a compatibility question for that hardware generation.

No picture checklist: TV input, dock power (the dock needs its brick, not only USB from a TV), cable seated, and the system not in airplane-related odd states. Try another HDMI port or cable if the input is blank.
