How to Draw a Christmas Tree?

A Christmas tree is one of the easiest things to draw — it's essentially a stack of triangles or zigzag tiers. Here are two simple approaches.

What you need: a pencil, an eraser, paper, and green/brown/yellow colors.

Method 1 — Stacked tiers (most realistic-looking):

1. Draw a light vertical center line. This keeps the tree symmetrical. Mark the top point and the base width.
2. Draw the top tier. From the top point, draw two lines angling down and out, then connect them with a zigzag or scalloped line to suggest branches.
3. Add a middle tier. Starting just inside the ends of the first tier, draw another wider section down and out, ending in another zigzag.
4. Add a bottom tier. Repeat once more, making this the widest section.
5. Draw the trunk. Add a short, small rectangle at the bottom center, below the branches.
6. Add a star or angel on the top point.
7. Decorate. Add circles for ornaments, curved lines draping across the tiers for garland or lights, and a base or gifts underneath.
8. Erase the center line, outline, and color — green branches, brown trunk, yellow star, and colorful ornaments.

Method 2 — Simple triangle (easiest):

Draw one large triangle, add a small rectangle trunk underneath, put a star on top, and add ornament circles. Done.

Tips:

• Making each tier slightly wider than the one above gives the classic conical shape.
• Zigzag edges look far more like pine branches than straight lines.
• Shade the left or right side of the tree slightly darker to make it look three-dimensional.
