- Open the fuel door and unscrew the cap (some cars are capless — push the nozzle in).

- Insert the nozzle fully, squeeze the trigger. A clip on some pumps holds it; not every state allows that.
- When it clicks, you're full. Extra clicks to "top off" can spill fuel and mess with vapor recovery.
- Hang the nozzle, cap the tank, take the receipt if you want it.
If the pump won't authorize: try the other side of the pump, pay inside, or a different card. Some stations ask a ZIP code for the card's billing ZIP.
Diesel vs. gas: the diesel nozzle is thicker and shouldn't fit a gas car. Don't put diesel in a gasoline engine (or gas in a diesel).
