How to Print on Canva?

You have two options: download the design as a PDF Print file and print it yourself, or order physical copies through Canva Print. For home printing, always choose PDF Print rather than PNG or standard PDF, because it's the only export with the resolution and colour handling meant for print.

Printing at home:

1. Open your design and click Share in the top right.
2. Click Download.
3. Under File type, choose PDF Print.
4. Tick Crop marks and bleed if the design runs to the edge of the page.
5. Set Colour profile to CMYK if the option is available on your plan — this matters for accurate colour.
6. Click Download.
7. Open the PDF and print from your PDF reader, not from the browser preview.

Printing from the browser's own preview is the most common cause of poor results — it re-renders the file at screen resolution.

Print settings that matter at the printer:

• Set the paper size to match your design (A4, Letter, etc.)
• Choose Actual size or 100%, not "Fit to page", which shrinks the design and throws off measurements
• Select High quality or Best in printer settings
• Choose the correct paper type — glossy, matte, card — so the printer lays down the right amount of ink

Using Canva Print (ordering professionally made copies):

1. Click Share → Print with Canva.
2. Choose the product — business cards, posters, flyers, mugs, T-shirts.
3. Select quantity, paper stock and finish.
4. Review the preview carefully, especially anything near the edges.
5. Place the order.

Quality is generally very good and it handles bleed and trimming for you, but delivery takes days and it costs more than home printing. Canva Print isn't available in every country.

Printing double-sided (front and back). Canva doesn't have a single "double-sided" toggle for home printing, so:

1. Build your design as a two-page document — page 1 the front, page 2 the back.
2. Download as a single PDF Print file.
3. In your printer dialogue, choose Print on both sides.
4. Pick the correct binding edge — long edge for portrait, short edge for landscape. Getting this wrong prints the back upside down.
5. If your printer can't duplex, print page 1, reload the paper, then print page 2. Test on scrap first to work out which way up the paper feeds.

For Canva Print products like business cards, double-sided is a built-in option at checkout.

Why colours look different when printed. Screens use RGB light while printers use CMYK ink, and some bright screen colours — vivid blues, neon greens, intense oranges — simply cannot be reproduced in ink. They come out duller. To reduce surprises:

• Export with the CMYK colour profile where available
• Avoid relying on very saturated neon shades for print work
• Print a test page before committing to a large run
• Remember paper matters: matte paper absorbs ink and looks softer than glossy

Understanding bleed and crop marks. If any colour or image runs to the edge of the page, you need bleed — the design extended slightly past the trim line — so that a small misalignment when cutting doesn't leave a white strip. Tick Crop marks and bleed on export, and keep important text at least a few millimetres inside the edge.

Common problems:

Printing from a phone: download the PDF in the Canva app, then use your phone's share sheet to send it to AirPrint or your printer's app. Results are the same as from a computer as long as you use PDF Print.
