How to Drop a Pin?

"Dropping a pin" marks an exact spot on a map so you can save it, get directions to it, or share it with someone. Here's how on the two main map apps.

Google Maps (iPhone or Android):

1. Open the Google Maps app.
2. Touch and hold your finger on the exact spot on the map where you want the pin.
3. A red pin drops and a panel appears at the bottom with the location's coordinates or address.
4. From there you can tap Save, Directions, or Share to send the pin to someone.

Apple Maps (iPhone/iPad):

1. Open the Maps app.
2. Touch and hold the spot on the map.
3. A pin drops with a "Marked Location" card at the bottom.
4. Tap the card to share, save to favorites, or get directions.

Google Maps on a computer:

1. Go to maps.google.com.
2. Left-click once on the exact spot on the map. A small grey pin appears with the coordinates at the bottom.
3. Click that info box to save or share it.

Sharing your own current location instead: If you want to share where you are (not a pin you placed), use the "Share location" feature — in Google Maps tap your profile → "Location sharing," or on iPhone use the Find My / Messages location share.

Tip: Dropping a pin is great for marking a parking spot, a trailhead, or a meeting point that doesn't have a clear street address.
