How to Change Apple Maps Voice?

Apple Maps doesn't have its own voice setting — it uses your Siri voice. To change it, go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Settings → Siri & Search on older iOS versions) → Siri Voice, and pick a different variety or voice.

Step-by-step:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri (on iOS 17 and earlier: Siri & Search).
3. Tap Siri Voice.
4. Choose a Variety — the accent, such as American, Australian, British, Indian, Irish, or South African.
5. Choose a Voice — the options are listed as Voice 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on, replacing the old "male/female" labels.
6. Tap a voice to preview it. Your selection downloads in the background, so give it a moment before it takes effect.

The voice you pick here is used everywhere Siri speaks, including Apple Maps navigation.

To change the language the directions are spoken in, go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Language. Note that this also changes the language Siri listens for.

How to adjust the navigation volume: This is set inside Maps.

• Go to Settings → Maps → Spoken Directions (on some versions, Driving & Navigation).
• Choose Loud Volume, Normal Volume, or Low Volume.

You can also change it mid-route by adjusting the volume buttons while a direction is being spoken.

How to turn the Apple Maps voice off:

• Permanently: go to Settings → Maps → Spoken Directions and turn off Spoken Directions (or select No Voice). You'll still get on-screen turn-by-turn directions and haptic feedback.
• For one trip: during navigation, tap the audio/speaker icon on the route screen and choose to mute the guidance.
• There's also a "Pause Spoken Audio" toggle under Settings → Maps, which controls whether Maps pauses your podcast or audiobook to speak a direction.

Troubleshooting a voice that isn't working:

• Check that your iPhone isn't on silent and that the volume isn't turned right down.
• Make sure Spoken Directions is enabled under Settings → Maps.
• If you're connected to Bluetooth or CarPlay, the audio may be routing to a device that's muted or on a different input.
• If you just changed voices, the new one may still be downloading — connect to Wi-Fi and wait.
• Restart your iPhone, which resolves most Siri voice glitches.

Note: you can't install a custom or celebrity voice in Apple Maps — Apple only offers the built-in Siri varieties. That's a feature Google Maps and Waze have offered at times, but Apple Maps doesn't support it.
