How to Remove Dog Hair From Clothes?

Dog hair clings to fabric with static and by weaving into the fibers. The best results come from loosening the hair before or during washing rather than relying on the washing machine alone.

Quick fixes (before or without washing):

• Lint roller — the fastest grab-and-go option.
• Damp rubber glove or damp sponge — wipe over the fabric; the hair balls up and lifts off. Surprisingly effective and reusable.
• Dryer sheet — rub a dryer sheet over the clothing to reduce static and loosen hair.

Best method using the dryer + washer:

1. Dry first (10 minutes). Before washing, toss the item in the dryer on a no-heat/air-fluff or low cycle with a dryer sheet or dryer balls for about 10 minutes. This loosens hair, which the lint trap catches. Clean the lint trap afterward.
2. Shake the clothes out outdoors or over a trash can to knock off loosened hair.
3. Wash with a vinegar boost. Wash as normal but add ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse (or the fabric softener compartment). Vinegar relaxes fibers and reduces static so hair releases and washes away.
4. Dry again with dryer balls to catch remaining hair, then clean the lint trap once more.

Important: Don't overload the washer with pet-hair-covered clothes, and clean the lint trap between loads — too much hair can clog your machine.

Prevention: Brush your dog regularly, use a fabric spray or anti-static spray, and keep a lint roller handy by the door.
