You can close (delete) a Cash App account from within the app. Before you do, cash out any remaining balance, because you'll lose access afterward.
Before deleting:
- Transfer out your balance. Send any money to your bank or another account — you can't recover it once the account is closed.
- Download your account history/statements if you want records for taxes or personal reference.
Steps to close the account (in the app):
- Open Cash App and tap your profile icon (top corner).
- Scroll to and tap Support (or "Something Else" → account settings, depending on app version).
- Look for "Account Settings" and then "Close your Cash App account" (in some versions it's under Support → "Something Else" → "Account Settings" → "Close Account").
- Confirm that you want to close the account. Cash App will process the request and send a confirmation.
Alternative (via the website): You can also go to Cash App's website, sign in, and follow the account-closing option in the settings/support section.
Good to know:
- Closing the account deactivates your $Cashtag and cancels any Cash App Card.
- You may still be able to access certain records for a period, as required by financial regulations.
- If you just want a break, you could simply remove your bank info and stop using it rather than fully closing it.
Note: App menus change over time, so if you can't find the exact option, use the in-app Support search for "close account."
