How to Clean a MacBook Screen?

MacBook screens have delicate coatings, so the key is using a soft microfiber cloth and, at most, a little water — not household glass cleaners.

What you need:

• A clean, lint-free microfiber cloth
• Water (distilled is ideal)
• Optionally, a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe only on models Apple approves (see below)

Step-by-step:

1. Shut down and unplug. Turn the MacBook off and disconnect the charger before cleaning.
2. Wipe dry first. Gently wipe the screen with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust and smudges. This is often all you need.
3. Dampen the cloth if needed. Lightly dampen the microfiber cloth with water — never spray liquid directly onto the screen, since it can seep into the edges.
4. Wipe gently. Use light pressure in one direction or small circles. Don't press hard on the display.
5. Dry it off. Follow with a dry section of the cloth.

About disinfecting wipes: Apple says you may gently use a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox disinfecting wipe on the hard, nonporous surfaces of many modern Macs — but avoid soaking the display and check Apple's guidance for your specific model, especially older ones with special coatings.

Avoid: Window cleaners, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol sprays, abrasives, and paper towels — all can scratch or strip the screen coating.
